St. John’s, Newfoundland – September 22nd to 24th
Join us for
St. John's is the perfect venue for the 2011 Symposium, with its rich maritime history and unique culture. The locale overlooks scenic St. John's harbour, with historic George Street, a place to experience warm hospitality and live entertainment just minutes away. Spanning three days, you can expect plenty of time for work, networking and getting together with other boating safety professionals and volunteers.
This year's Symposium highlights include:
•A full day workshop concurrent with the main programme, focusing on “Cold Water Response” for those keen on hands- on training;
• A visit to the internationally renowned Marine Institute of the Memorial University of Newfoundland;
• A hands-on opportunity to experience a small boat training simulator;
• Boating safety insights from near and far, past, present and future, with presentations from the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon (to be confirmed), Newfoundland and Labrador Ground SAR Association, St. John’s Annual Regatta organizers, the Canadian Rangers and the U.S. Coast Guard and National Safe Boating Council;
• A first for CSBC, insights on how social marketing techniques can be used to influence boater behaviour, with a presentation from a renowned expert in the field;
•An update on CSBC Personal Flotation Device task force, building on extensive discussions from the Montreal Symposium.
This event builds on a great 2010 Symposium in Montreal.
This is what we heard last year.
• It was wonderful to meet so many passionate, likeminded boating safety people.
• Best conference I've attended so far. Excellent speakers and quality topics.
• The Cold Water Boot Camp session was one of the best I have ever attended. Excellent job!
• Exceeded my expectations. Good international discussion to help others map out the way ahead.
If past participant experiences are an indication, the 2011 Symposium will be the boating safety ‘event of the year’.
Make sure you are part of it!
