Gravenhurst, Ontario– September 23rd to 25th, 2012
The Canadian Safe Boating Council (CSBC) is hosting its annual Symposium in Gravenhurst, Ontario from September 23rd to the 25th, and it promises to be a great event and an important way to promote the CSBC mission.
Join us for
- Professional development and learning for boating safety enthusiasts;
- Sharing new safe boating research and innovative ideas;
- Connecting with boating safety organizations to exchange information and resources.
Gravenhurst is a perfect venue for the 2012 Symposium, with a rich fresh-water marine history set among a backdrop of the beautiful Muskoka lakes. The host hotel, the Marriott Residence Inn overlooks the Gravenhurst harbour, hoem to the Muskoka Wharf & Muskoka Boat and Heritage Centre.
This year's Symposium highlights include:
• Two full day workshops, one prior to and the other concurrent with the main programme, led by Dr. Gordon
Giesbrecht and focusing on “Cold Water Response” for those keen on hands- on training;
• A visit to the renowned Muskoka Boat and Heritage Centre;
• On-water activites including a 'peek over the transom' at one of the cold water workshops in progress, and
on-water presentations by the Ontario Provincial Police and Canadian Rangers.
• Boating safety insights from near and far with presentations from Howard Glenn, Maritime Operations Manager, NSW Australia, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, U.K., Donald Roussel, Transport Canada and boating safety research;
• A panel on the Future of Boating;
This event builds on the great 2011 Symposium in St. Johns, Newfoundland.
This is what we heard last year.
• It was wonderful to meet so many passionate, likeminded boating safety people.
• Best conference I've attended so far. Excellent speakers and quality topics.
• The Cold Water Boot Camp session was one of the best I have ever attended. Excellent job!
• Exceeded my expectations. Good international discussion to help others map out the way ahead.
If past participant experiences are an indication, the 2012 Symposium will be the boating safety ‘event of the year’.
Make sure you are part of it!
